IBA, ZAMBALES - The Lighthouse Marina Resort in Subic Bay and Vice Governor/Provincial PESO Manager Ramon Lacbain II (under the administration of Gov. Hermogenes E. Ebdane Jr.) jointly organized a Consultative Dialogue for Environment, Livelihood and Business Opportunities last Tuesday, June 17, 2014, at the DepEd Training Center in Iba, Zambales.
Participants warmly welcomed the honorable guest speaker Secretary Neric O. Acosta, Presidential Adviser on Environmental Protection, who gave an inspiring and challenging talk entitled, "Climate Change - How to turn problems into opportunities". He discussed the status of our environment and emphasized the importance of caring for the planet. "Ecology is the basis of economy, not the other way around," explained Secretary Acosta.
The whole day meeting consisted of guest speakers who tackled topics on socio-economic best practices/livelihood opportunities that participants could apply to their respective organizations. Attendees included Mayor Ronald Apostol of Cabangan, Mayor Carolyn Farinas of San Felipe and about 113 other participants from the government,
together with the police and military, and the private sectors of Zambales and Olongapo City.
At the end of the event, Lacbain announced the launching of International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) on September 20, 2014 for Zambales, spearheaded by ICC Zone Captain and the Sales and Marketing Manager of The Lighthouse Marina Resort, Zedrik Avecilla.
Last year's ICC was attended by over 26,000 participants from Zambales, Olongapo and Subic Bay combined.
This year, more volunteers are expected to be mobilized from all towns to help clean the coastlines and waterways of Zambales.
Furthermore, during the activity, Lacbain together with Acosta and Avecilla decided to have a bigger and more meaningful dialogue that would involve all the LGUs of Zambales, including Olongapo City and Subic Bay Freeport Zone, together with business owners to discuss the current problems of the environment and at the same time solutions on how to tackle them. This will be held sometime in September before the September 20 ICC on at Subic Bay Freeport Zone. This will be another joint project of the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority, the Provincial Government of Zambales and the Municipal Government of Olongapo.
