SEA TURTLE CONSERVATION PROGRAM

Locally known as“pawikan”,seaturtles are reptiles with streamlined bodies and flippers adapted to the sea.They lived on earth since the time of the dinosaurs. Three out of six species of seaturtles visit Subic Bay every year,so watch out!

  • Feed on jellyfishes and other marine life keeping an ecological balance and biodiversity

THREATS TO THEIR SURVIVAL

  • Nesting Threats - Increased human presence, poaching and predators, artificial lightning,, beach armoring, beach nourishment
  • Marine Environment Threats - Commercial fisheries, oil and gas exploration, ingestion of marine debris

The Ecology Center staff put numbered metal tags on the front flippers for monitoring.




Protection of nests

Nests are protected from poachers or predators b placing improvised fences around it.




Hatchling Release

The time of nesting is documented to estimate and predict the hatching time. If we're lucky, we see the hatchlings crawl to the sea.
