Financial analyst, electrician bag SBMA Employee of the Year award
Mar 28, 2018

SUBIC BAY FREEPORT – A financial analyst and an airport lineman/electrician were named 2017 Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) Employee of the Year (EOY) for their remarkable contributions to the agency’s performance.

For the second year in a row, two finalists tied to receive the coveted SBMA EOY award. Nora Sevillejo of the Support Services Group and Eric Labarentos of Operations Group stood out among the six finalists during the awarding ceremony at the Subic Bay Exhibition and Convention Center (SBECC) on March 23.

SBMA Chairperson and Administrator Wilma T. Eisma congratulated the winners and other finalists during the ceremony and also lauded all the employees for heeding her call for malasakit.

“There’s a renewed energy in SBMA; there’s a renewed energy in Subic Bay. And whether you believe it or not, it came from our call for malasakit,” Eisma said.

“And I’m not taking credit for it. You should take credit for it because you listened to the call. You listened to the call to do your best, more than what you are expected to do,” she added.

Sevillejo, a financial analyst for 23 years, was first a volunteer under the SBMA Tourism Department for seven months in 1994. She was named the Support Services Group’s best employee for her on-time submission of the Budget and Financial Accountability Report (BFAR) and the Budget Execution Documents (BEDs) required by the Department of Budget and Management (DBM).

Had Sevillejo failed to produce the documents on time, it would have affected the power subsidy for Hanjin Heavy Industries and Construction-Philippines, which is the biggest locator-company in Subic Freeport, and the Performance-Based Bonus (PBB) for SBMA employees.

In her speech, Sevillejo attributed her success to her mother who encouraged her to serve the SBMA as a volunteer, believing that she will “somehow become someone someday.” She said that she was one of those who believed during the early years that SBMA will prosper.

Labarentos, on the other hand, was speechless and could not believe having been chosen as awardee. He reassured his colleagues that he will continue with what he has been doing.

Labarentos is well-known to the Operations group as “Eric of all trades” for multi-tasking as electrician, plumber, mason, carpenter, fabricator, and equipment technician, to name a few.

The other finalists were Francis Garcia of the Business and Investment Group; Froilan Chester Picazo of the Chairman and Administrator’s Group; Thomas Jason Macomb of the Public Services Group; and Reysther Calderon of the Regulatory Group.

The SBMA Employee of the Year Awards is a project of the SBMA Human Resources Management Department to recognize and reward exemplary services rendered by employees in line with the Civil Service Commission’s Program on Awards and Incentives for Service Excellence (PRAISE).
